It’s our annual live episode from Dragon*Con! We had Patrick, our sports reporter, giving us live updates from the Magic: The Gathering pro tour in Pennsylvania. Brian talked about Shatner’s explanation for Star Trek V‘s rock monsters, Crispy had a good time at the Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm concert, and Stephen was being stalked by Colin Ferguson. (Little did he know what bathtub scene awaited him after the podcast.) From there we discussed the BBC America premiere of the Doctor Who episode “Night Terrors”, geek proposals at Dragon*Con, Game of Thrones, drunk Tony Stark, and more. By the way, did we mention that we won a Parsec award?

We’re back with our first podcast recorded via a Google+ hangout. We discuss our experiences at Dragon*Con, including winning a Parsec award and Stephen being in the bathtub with Colin Ferguson from Eureka. In geekier news, Patrick has a new fantasy league: drafting new fall TV shows that are sure to be cancelled. Stephen and Crispy agree Torchwood: Miracle Day was not so miraculous. Patrick’s lost the Alphas love, while everyone is very sad about Green Lantern making back its money. Brian gets to hear Kevin Pollack’s William Shatner impersonation in person, Crispy loves the videogame Dead Island, and Stephen has a new podcast called Disasterpiece Theatre. And we all agree: Patrick is going to clean up in the Fall TV Cancellation league.

Ok kids … pack your kilts, stick some gears on old waistcoats and find those Vulcan ears. Geek Media Expo 2010 is only days away (October 22-24) and WhatTheCast is ready to take it over.

Saturday brings the madness that is Race of the Tauntauns … a sack race using sleeping bags that look like tauntauns from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (you know, the movie that didn’t suck). Contestants can use the ThinkGeek edition sleeping bag or their own creation, but they must complete the course while avoiding our twisted obstacles (cue evil laugh). Contestants also have to survive Crispy and Brian’s sportscaster commentary, adding another degree of difficulty to the event.

The live WhatTheCast recording is at noon on Sunday (Oct 24th), so you have plenty of time to grab brunch before we recap a fantastic geek weekend. We’re also hanging out on the “Geek Journalism” panel (Saturday at 5:00pm).

Stephen brings the science (SCIENCE!) to the show on two panels … “Science of the Whedonverse” (Saturday at 2:00pm) and his awesome “There Ain’t No Stealth in Space” presentation (Sunday at 1:00pm).

We’ve also got friends along for the ride. Garret Wang, Voyager crew member and director of Dragon*Con Star Trek programming, is bringing his personal brand of fun to the show. GMX also added the Sci-Fi Janitors (Bob and Carl) to the guest list (if you don’t clean up after yourselves they will call you out … you have been warned). It’s a great guest list so there’s something to do when we’re not on stage.
